National Geographic Channel's Taboo series takes viewers on a high-definition journey beyond their comfort zones and across cultural borders to explore rituals and customs that are acceptable in some cultures but forbidden, illegal or reviled in others. OCTOBER ROAD (SERIES 1) (STAR WORLD) Premieres on 23 Dec Nick Garrett (Bryan Greenberg, Prime) is about to begin a journey of self-discovery in October Road, an all-new drama premiering on STAR WORLD on Tue 23 Dec at 9pm. A decade ago, Nick left his hometown of Knights Ridge, Massachusetts, for a six-week jaunt through Europe. But rather than return as planned, he relocated to New York and wrote a best-selling semi-autobiographical novel about the residents of his hometown. In doing so, he revealed secrets about the locals and made enemies with his former friends. When Nick is invited to lecture at the local college, he returns to Knights Ridge and faces fallout from his book. He soon learns that his high-school sweetheart, Hannah (Laura Prepon, That ‘70s Show), now has a nine-year-old son who might be his child, and that his onetime best friend, Eddie (Geoff Stults, 7th Heaven) still resents Nick for his sudden departure. In an attempt to make amends, Nick sets up home in Knights Ridge. “That whole issue of reconciling the past and the present is something that a lot of 20-year-olds are dealing with,” explains Greenberg. “I think the writers really captured what it’s like to be in that weird age.” Journey down a different path when the all-new October Road premieres exclusively on STAR WORLD on Tue 23 Dec at 9pm.

AGAINST ALL ODDS Each programme will take a subject area such as back from the dead or falling from the sky, superhuman strength or being hit by lightning, and examine what’s going on through several compelling case histories. We will bring each story alive as a gripping mini-narrative through a mixture of interview and reconstruction, and then we will re-examine and interrogate what happened. Editorially the appliance of science will analyse the factual basis to the apparently impossible, while visually we will use Computer Graphics as well as drama to get under the skin of just what the human body is capable of.
